WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that uses a medical grade needle pen to stimulate collagen and elastin production. This treatment is designed to trigger the body’s natural wound healing response by creating a controlled injury to the skin. It’s an excellent maintenance service for aging skin, but it can also be done in a series of several treatments to correct skin imperfections. Here's everything you need to know about this treatment!

WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?

If you’re looking to correct skin texture, pore size, scarring, fine lines, or unwanted pigment, look no further than microneedling!

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT MICRONEEDLING

Microneedling stimulates collagen and elastin by piercing tiny microchannels in the skin, which also enables it to more effectively absorb skincare products and serums. It’s most commonly performed with a hyaluronic acid serum, however, PRP, or Platelet Rich Plasma, can be added on for an additional cost.

Microneedling and PRP Therapy

Hyaluronic acid is naturally produced by your body and its main function is to retain water to keep your tissues hydrated. In fact, this serum retains over 1,000 times its weight in water within the cells of the skin, making it an excellent serum for this procedure.

If you choose to add PRP to your treatment, our naturopathic doctor would draw your blood and after just 15 minutes of spinning, we’re able to extract just the plasma, which is what would be used for your microneedling treatments. Plasma is made up of about 90% water and contains various nutrients that aid in your cellular function. Adding PRP to your treatment gives an excellent collagen boost.

A Versatile Face and Body Treatment

This treatment is most commonly performed on the face, however, it can be done anywhere on the body. We have seen several patients who’ve had it done on the neck, chest, back, or even the stomach to treat c-section scarring.

Depending on the area of your face or body part being treated, different needle lengths will be used. As a medical spa, we have the capability of going deeper with the needle length to better stimulate collagen production and give patients a more aggressive treatment.

What to Expect During Your Microneedling Treatment

The service is booked for 45 minutes to an hour, but the treatment itself is a quick 15 minutes. We apply a topical anesthetic prior to the treatment to reduce any pain and discomfort. The procedure is well tolerated and, in some cases, virtually painless, feeling only a mild prickling sensation.

Immediately after the service, your skin will be pink or red in appearance, but it generally goes down within hours or by the following day. Minimal bleeding and bruising are also possible, depending on the aggressiveness of the procedure. Your skin may feel tight, itchy, and warm afterward, but this will subside in 12-14 hours.

We recommend the ZO Post Procedure Recovery System for best results following your Microneedling treatment.

Post-Care for Microneedling

The most important factor in your Microneedling post-care is to keep the skin clean. We recommend sleeping on fresh pillowcases the night of your treatment and refraining from working out, wearing makeup, or touching your face for at least 48 hours.

Microneedling at Vibe MedSpas

At Vibe MedSpas, we also offer a non-comedogenic (non-clogging) and antimicrobial (anti-bacterial) makeup line, Advanced Minerals. This makeup includes liquid foundations, concealers, and loose and pressed powders that can be combined or used separately to build the coverage that you want. It can be applied as soon as the treatment is over and will not affect your results. This is a great option for patients who hate post-procedure downtime.

When to Avoid Microneedling

You are not a candidate for Microneedling if you have active acne, rosacea, diabetes, you are pregnant or lactating, you have a skin related autoimmune disorder, you’ve experienced keloid scarring or if you are on anticoagulants.
